The physics of MRI includes understanding the concepts of molecular spin under strong magnetic fields and watching to see what happens when the field is removed and the spin relaxes. The basis of MRI consists of the nuclear magnetic resonance phenomenon, which is made possible by applying an oscillating magnetic field to a sample that contains atoms with nonzero nuclear spins.
