The conventional unit of measuring the speed of a DC motor is in RPM. RPM speed varies for different electronic devices, depending on the nature of its task. A device needing fast motion will require a motor of a relatively high RPM range, whereas precision work requires a much lower RPM. Moreover, measuring the RPM of a motor using tachometer is useful, of which there are both contact and non-contact types. Lastly, RPM can be converted to a different speed unit, called radians per second.
