The Falkirk Water Wheel in Scotland: Rotating Boat Lift

The Falkirk Wheel is the world’s first and only rotating boat lift. Located in Scotland, it was opened in May 2002 as part of the Millennium Link project by British Waterways. The rotating boat lift replaces the original 11 locks at Falkirk which were removed in 1933. The Falkirk Wheel allows boats to navigate across the Forth and Clyde Canal and the Union Canal.The Falkirk Wheel was officially opened on 24 May 2002 and is located near the Rough Castle Fort, near the village of Tamfourhill, Scotland.
