Bernoulli Equation or the energy equation for ideal flows was found assuming that the velocity of fluid particles flowing across any area of cross section of flow is same. But for real flows that is not true, velocity of fluid particles at the sections are different. We can no more use the average velocity of flow directly to denote the kinetic energy of fluid. A correction factor, called as Kinetic Energy Correction Factor or Kinetic Energy Coefficient, is multiplied to the kinetic energy term to give the real kinetic energy from the ideal kinetic energy term.
