What is a Polymer? Examples of Polymers

Polymer materials are one of most important commercial materials with a wide industrial usage in many engineering disciplines. Most of the household items are produced from polymer materials. Plastic, rubber and polythene are some of well known and widely used polymer materials. These materials are categorized in to three basic types as thermoplastic, thermoset and elastomers. All of these polymers are used for number of useful items such as packaging items, containers, tires, etc. Because of low production cost and availability expensive materials are replaced by polymers in most of the industries.
